Privacy and local processing
Short version: cutouts run in your browser. Easy Background Remover is built so you can remove a background without sending the photo to “our servers” for inference.
That does not mean “Chrome never talks to the network.” Extensions still load their own files, and the first run may download an AI model so later work can happen on-device. It does mean the everyday path — open image, remove background, refine, export — is designed to keep pixel work local.
Images
When you drop, paste, or choose a file, decoding and background removal happen in the extension’s editor and worker. A short history of recent originals and results can be stored in the browser (IndexedDB) so you can reopen a job. Clearing site/extension data removes that cache like any other local storage.
The empty editor states the same idea plainly: your images stay in this browser.
Model download
On first launch you may see a splash while an on-device model downloads. That file is cached for later sessions. Updates can trigger another download. This is a tradeoff: a one-time (or occasional) download instead of uploading every photo to a remote API.
Website analytics
Pages on the Easy Background Remover product website load Umami analytics from umami.extsite.tech. Umami provides high-level website usage information, such as the page visited, referring site, browser and device type, approximate country, and interactions that the site labels as events.
Website analytics are separate from on-device image processing. They do not receive the images you open in the extension, image pixels, cutout results, or the local editing history stored by the extension.
Permissions
The extension asks only for what the workflows need — opening the editor, reading an image you selected, and related Chrome extension capabilities. You do not need an account with us to cut out a single image.
If analytics or crash reporting are enabled in a given extension build, they are for product quality, not for shipping your photo pixels to a cutout API.
What we want you to verify
- You chose the file (or page image) yourself
- Export is a PNG you download or copy locally
- You can remove local history by clearing extension data if you share a machine
