Uninstall and local data expectations

Uninstalling Easy Background Remover removes the extension and the browser-managed data associated with that installed extension. It does not delete PNGs you already downloaded, images you copied into another app, the original files you opened, or copies managed by your operating system and other services.

If the device is shared or the images are sensitive, clear recent extension data before uninstalling and separately remove any exported or source files you no longer need. Uninstall is product cleanup, not a whole-device eraser.

What local data can exist while installed

The extension’s everyday cutout path runs in the browser. To make that workflow practical, the browser may hold several kinds of local data:

Recent originals and results can be stored in browser storage such as IndexedDB. This makes reopening a recent job convenient, but it is not archival storage. The browser may clear storage, an update may change it, and an uninstall ends access to it.

Keep a separate copy of any result you need. “It is still in History” is not a backup plan.

What uninstall normally removes

The browser owns the extension installation area and its extension-specific storage. When you remove the extension through the browser’s extension manager, the browser removes the installed code and should remove the data namespace belonging to that extension.

That means the editor, its recent-job history, settings, and browser-managed model cache are no longer available through the removed installation. If you later reinstall, expect a fresh setup. A model may need to download again, and previous local history should not be treated as recoverable.

Exact housekeeping is controlled by the browser and can vary by browser version. If a retention requirement matters, use the browser’s clear-data controls before uninstalling and verify the profile afterward rather than relying on an assumption.

What uninstall does not remove

Once data leaves the extension’s storage through your own action, it belongs to another location. Removing the extension cannot reach into every location and delete it.

Downloaded results

A transparent PNG saved to Downloads, Desktop, a project folder, removable drive, or network folder remains there. Delete it with the operating system if you no longer need it, then handle the system’s trash or recycle area according to your policy.

Original images

Opening a file does not make the extension the owner of that file. The original remains wherever it was before: a camera folder, attachment directory, synchronized drive, or another application’s library.

Clipboard contents

Copy places a result on the system clipboard. Some operating systems and clipboard utilities retain a history. Copy something harmless afterward or clear clipboard history if the cutout should not remain there.

Files pasted or uploaded elsewhere

If you pasted the result into a document, chat, design workspace, or website, that destination now has its own copy. Review and delete it in that service. Uninstalling the source extension has no authority over the destination.

Browser and system records outside extension storage

Download history, recent-file lists, backups, endpoint monitoring, and synchronized folders are outside the extension’s local history. Whether those records exist depends on browser, operating-system, and organization settings.

A clean uninstall routine for a shared machine

Use this order when you want a predictable cleanup:

  1. Export any result you are allowed and required to keep.
  2. Close tabs or applications where the image is still pasted or previewed.
  3. Remove recent jobs by clearing the extension’s local data through available browser controls.
  4. Delete unwanted original and exported files from their folders.
  5. Clear clipboard history if you used Copy.
  6. Check synchronized folders, Downloads, and the system trash.
  7. Remove the extension from the browser’s extension manager.

The order matters. Clearing local history first lets you confirm the visible cache is gone while the product is still installed. File cleanup remains a separate step because downloaded output is intentionally outside extension storage.

Reinstall is a new local workspace

After reinstalling, plan for first-run behavior again. The extension may download the on-device model before the first cutout. Do not expect an old list of recent jobs to return.

Easy Background Remover does not require an account for the basic image workflow, so there is no remote project library that restores those jobs after sign-in. That is consistent with the local-processing model: convenience history lives in the browser profile where the work happened.

If old jobs appear after a reinstall, stop and identify whether the browser restored an entire profile, a device backup restored browser data, or you are viewing downloaded files rather than extension history. Those are different mechanisms.

Uninstall is not a privacy retroactive switch

Local processing reduces the need to send photo pixels to a remote inference service. It does not reverse actions already taken. If you emailed a result, stored it in a synchronized folder, or gave another user access to the browser profile, uninstall cannot recall those copies.

Likewise, removing the extension does not fix weak device security. Use a locked user account, separate browser profiles, encrypted storage where required, and the retention rules that apply to the image.

For highly sensitive work, decide the complete lifecycle before opening the file:

If you only want to clear history

You do not have to uninstall just to remove recent local jobs. Use the browser’s extension-data or site-data controls to clear the extension’s stored data. Expect this to remove convenience history and potentially require setup assets to be downloaded again.

Save wanted outputs first. Clearing browser data is deliberately destructive and recovery may not be possible.

The practical boundary

The extension can manage its own browser-local state while installed. The browser manages removal of that state during uninstall. You manage originals, exports, clipboard history, backups, and anything sent to another application.

For the current description of image handling and local history, use Privacy and local processing. If the extension is still installed and you want to test cleanup safely, start with a disposable image rather than a personal one.
