Does it upload my photos to a server to remove the background?
Cutout inference is designed to run in the browser on your device. The first launch may download an on-device model over the network; that is not the same as uploading each photo to a remote cutout API. Details: Privacy.
Which file types work?
PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, and HEIF are listed in the editor. If HEIC fails to decode, use another export from the camera roll.
Why is the first open slow?
The on-device model is downloading or initializing. Later opens should be quicker once the model is cached.
Can I get a transparent background?
Yes — export PNG and preview on the checkerboard. See How to make a transparent PNG.
Can I put a new background behind the subject?
Yes — solid color, gradient, or a background image, besides the checker preview.
What are Add and Erase?
Brush tools to fix the mask after the automatic pass. Refine edges.
Where did my recent images go?
The editor keeps a short local history. Clearing extension data clears it. It is not a cloud gallery.
Large image warning — is my export small?
Processing may run at a reduced resolution for speed on huge files; export is intended to remain full size. Read the on-screen warning when it appears.
Does it work offline after the model is downloaded?
Once the model is cached, you can often keep working without sending photos out. You still need Chrome and the extension installed. Exact offline behavior depends on whether Chrome must reach the network for other extension features.
Is there an account?
You should not need an account with us just to remove a background from an image you chose.
